Calgary Flames Fan Tries to Troll Jim Benning, Fails in the Process

Ramblings, Sports

Basically in the above link, some attention whore on Twitter with the username “fake_steinberg” tried to act funny and troll general manager Jim Benning of the Vancouver Canucks. Apparently he is a Calgary Flames fan.

Little does he know that Jim Benning had a great offseason and the whiny, annoying Canucks fans on HFboards.com do not reflect the Canucks fanbase.

Canucks losses this offseason:

-Kevin Bieksa
-Eddie Lack
-Zack Kassian
-Shawn Matthias
-Brad Richardson
-Nick Bonino
-Adam Clendening

The only guys on that list I miss are Clendening (who has yet to put in a full NHL season), Brad Richardson (who was injured for half the year), and Eddie Lack (who has yet to play a full NHL season as a starting goalie).

Who is going to replace these guys:

-Brandon Sutter aka Flat Stanley
-Jakob Markstrom (made a mockery of the AHL last season and has more potential than Eddie Lack has ever had)
-Brandon Prust (one of the best fourth liners in the league, great locker room guy)
-Matt Bartkowski (can’t get any worse than Bieksa and may do well in Willie Desjardins system)
-Sven Baertschi (question mark if this guy puts it together or not)

Basically, a lot of ifs. But I’m confident in the moves.

Who did the Calgary Flames get?

An over rated defenseman who was hated in Boston named Dougie Hamilton and a third liner in Michael Frolik.

Wow, teams are sure shaking in their boots in the pacific division. Especially after you overachieved last year. Bob Hartley also sure has a long shelf life everywhere he’s been (not really).

So I’m sure Jim Benning thanks you for the flowers. The only funnier joke would be an Oilers fan doing the same. That would almost be as funny as the fan of the franchise who overachieved last year and will finish below the Canucks (once again, like the last ten years, that is funny).

I did chuckle at a response that said how Benning sent bigger flowers back and a third round pick. That was witty and accurate.

So long story short?

Fans of teams who haven’t done anything should mind their own damn business.

Patrick POS Kane Joins the Ranks of Ben Roethlisberger

Ramblings, Sports

In case you haven’t heard the news, Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks is currently under investigation after an incident occurred in his hometown near Buffalo.

According to the sports news I just watched, it said that incident was related to a rape and how a woman had a rape kit administered to her.

Yeah there will be detractors who say shame on the woman for going after the star Patrick Kane and his money, but the rape kit speaks volumes to me.

Just like Kobe Bryant and Big Ben Rapistberger, a big settlement will probably be made to sweep this classless action under the rug.

Patrick Kane is a piece of crap, that’s good at playing hockey.

Percy Harvin Can Single Handily Bring a Team Down

Ramblings, Sports

Enjoy him Buffalo, he’s yours.

Percy Harvin of the Buffalo Bills was recently quoted in an interview saying how he loves his new teammates and the ones in Seattle previously never accepted him.

Maybe it’s not them and it’s you.

You know, the guy who refused to play when asked by offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell or the one who threw weights at the coaches during his time in Minnesota.

The fact the Seattle Seahawks turned their season around within a few games after he left speaks volumes.

He can bring a championship caliber team down all by himself. He’s that talented.

Buffalo is going to regret this.

I’m Tired of the Whiny Vancouver Canuck Fans

Ramblings, Sports

Let me pay a homage to the most stupid Canuck fan comments this offseason after the season came to an unfortunate end in April in a playoff series against division rival Calgary Flames.

Credit to HFBoards.com for the idiocy.

A topic on the worst GM-coach duos of all time yielded this response from a Canucks fan:

benning – desjardins is going to look pretty all-time awful in two years, if it doesn’t already.i mean, did you guys see desjardins undermine his team against calgary last spring like he was trying to lose?

Do I need to say more? Yes, this was copy and pasted. It makes me shake my head we have fans of this nature supporting the Vancouver Canucks.

A topic on how Benning forced the Canucks into “premature rebuilding” (which is a fair enough claim, but it gave this Notra “dumbass” like response):
As of last year, the Canucks were Cup contenders. Their playoff run sucked but at least they did make the playoffs. Now they definitely will be out of contention and it’s all because of Benning, IMO.
Now the Canucks were cup contenders before the evil Jim Benning came in. I’ve seen it all now. No sir, they finished sixth last in the league under Tortorella and Gillis’ direction. Nice try at spinning things, though.
On the same topic listed right above, another Gillis defender posted this gem:
That is how we know Benning botched it and is worse, much much much worse than Gillis (thus far of course. Perhaps we’re all wrong or he figures things out). Gillis had the team poised to begin the turn around in the summer of 2014. Any new GM would have loved walking into that situation. Well any new GM that could talk about things other than meat and potatoes, scrums, culture, and high end intangibles.
Ah yes, the team was freaking great coming off sixth last and trending downwards. Where do “fans” come up with this stuff?
Gillis only looked bad because of the owners influence. If Gillis had his way we would have started the rebuild in 2013. The Luongo/Schneider debacle is way overblown.
When did Gillis become Mother Theresa? I heard fans yelling “fire Gillis” at the end of 2013-2014 season. They were right. It was time for him to go. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out, Gillis lover.
Kevin Bieksa clearly lost faith in this team and new management. Just a year ago he said he’d go down with to ship.
Now Kevin Bieksa is apparently against the cause. He hates the Canucks just like these fans hate Jim Benning. He has agreed with the “smart ones”. When did opinion become fact like this? Maybe he agreed to be traded because it was the right thing to do? He was the worst defenseman last year on ice, and it wasn’t even close. No amount of advanced statistics could say otherwise.
I’m sad he’s gone but I’m glad he’s out of this mickey mouse organization. I always thought the criticism of Bieksa was unfair. Yes he had holes in his game and struggled after that sliced tendon injury but that guy was the most warrior heart and soul player I’ve ever seen on the Canucks. The guy bleed Canucks blue and was one of the very few homegrown players to develop into a top NHL player in my time watching the Canucks (since about ’01) which is both sad and beautiful. I hope the Ducks win next year not only for Bieksa but because that is such an unbelievably well managed team. Their scouting, cap management and blend of youth and experience is reminiscent of the Red Wings. They’re going to be an elite team for years with how that team has been built.

It’s clear he wants to be on a winner and doesn’t think much of this management group.

Guess what this “loyal fan” has as a username? “FacepalmBenning”.
It doesn’t get better than that.
What’s the conclusion in all of this?
Canucks fans, as a person living in Vancouver who has once been a season ticket holder, annoy me and make me sick. Most pessimistic group and media I have ever seen. Every year they whine for someone to get fired or axed and every season with no cup is a failure.
No one predicted this team to finish as well as they did last year. Fans were generally happy about that until the Calgary series. Then it becomes a game of how Desjardins and Benning all of the sudden suck at their jobs.
I’m so tired of it. We deserve a team on par with the late 2000s era Edmonton Oilers. Seeing as how a fifth place finish in the west is absolutely awful and grounds for the general manager being fired. Along with his offseason moves that HAVE YET TO PLAY A SINGLE GAME IN A CANUCKS UNIFORM.
These posters should have their Canuck fan titles stripped. It’s annoying and embarrassing.

Fentanyl is Not Cool

Ramblings

A little off topic from what I usually post and talk about but it was on my mind.

This fentanyl “fad” hitting Vancouver is out of control.

Of the 300 drug overdose deaths that hit Vancouver last year, 25% of them were fentanyl related.

A North Vancouver couple succumbed to the drug and now a two year old is left without a mother and father.

Now a seventeen year old kid from Burnaby by the name of Jack Bodie has died after ingesting the drug at the WC Shelley Park in East Vancouver.

No kid or person would knowingly want to ingest this drug after hearing nothing positive associated with it. It is 50 to 100 times more toxic than morphine. It takes months to withdraw from it. It is cheaper than heroin and oxycodone apparently and more powerful. Hence the lacing and mixing into other drugs.

Therefore when you call up a dealer next time for some 80 mg oxycodone or ecstasy, make sure you are aware of what’s happening. Any asshole with a low value for human life could just lace this into any pill.

Here’s the Province’s article on this horrible trend:

Ned Yost is a Troll: How the Kansas City Royals Became Baseball’s Most Hated Team

Ramblings, Sports

Watching the highlights for the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals game was painful.

High pitches from pitcher Edinson Volquez of the Royals to new additions Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson.

The umpire Jim Wolf expressed poor judgment in not taking control of the situation and disciplining Volquez.

On top of that, when Donaldson rightfully complained, Volquez begins taunting him from the dugout and after the game he goes on about how he’s a baby.

When pitcher Sanchez on the Blue Jays returned the favour in the later innings, he got tossed. The Royals then act all tough and leave the dugout. There’s king rat Edinson Volquez trying to put on a front in the middle of this scrum like he’s the toughest guy ever.

To add insult to injury manager Ned Yost put on a troll face and made a spiel that would make most politicians grin. He said Jim Wolf was amazing and the Blue Jays players leap into the inside too much which is why the high pitches occurred.

Come on man. I thought about calling him an asshole but could see he didn’t believe he crap he was spewing. He’s a troll.

The Royals have done this crap time and time again this year. They are trying to act like the toughest team in all of baseball. It doesn’t work that way.

Enjoy the exit from the postseason this year you classless baboons.

Rousimar Palhares is the Most Unfairly Vilified Man in Mixed Martial Arts

Ramblings, Sports

My goodness. This sounds familiar.

Welterweight and newly crowned World Series of Fighting champion Rousimar Palhares won in spectacular fashion once again over tough opponent Jake Shields.

What ensues after his win?

Whining from the masses and fans making a million excuses about how he held on to a submission to long. Not to forget, “he eye gouged Shields”.

Wah. Cry me a river, MMA fans. The man is clearly talented, takes no finishers, and fights to win.

He should be in the Ultimate Fighting Championship kicking ass, but was unfairly thrown out for beating up Mike Pierce too badly.

In case you don’t remember, Palhares was again vilified for beating the crap out of Mike Pierce in 30 seconds via submission leglock and the fans (including UFC president Dana White) whined about how he held onto the hold for too long.

Little do people remember, Mike Pierce was running his mouth before the fight. Something about how Brazil welterweights aren’t good? Cry me a river buddy. You got your ass handed to you by one of the best. Don’t get me started on how Mike Pierce is also one of the most boring fighters I’ve ever laid eyes on.

Jake Shields also threatened to take a limb or two against Palhares this Saturday. Another guy to join the team.

Now there’s talk about Palhares being stripped of the WSOF belt he rightfully earned and his win bonus being withheld.

This is an unfair witch hunt of one of the best welterweights in MMA. When he retires, we will be wondering “what if”. This guy absolutely could give UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler a run for his money.

I give a salute to Palhares for shit kicking Jake Shields and Mike Pierce. We have enough of these boring fighters ruining the sport.

In case you want to see the video, here it is below. You decide if he held on too long. In my humble opinion, he did not.

Biggest Winners and Losers in Sports July 2015

Ramblings, Sports

I’ve decided to add a new post I would like to do monthly: the biggest losers and winners in sports. This means all sports apply.

What do you mean by a winner? Someone who has done something good…or has won.

A loser, well the opposite. Someone who is a piece of crap or has lost.

Let’s start off with the negative. Here are who I feel are the biggest losers this last month.

Losers

  • Shaquille O’ Neal

Earlier in July the former dominant big man of the National Basketball Association posted from his Instagram account that an “all time Los Angeles Lakers team would beat an all time Chicago Bulls team by at least 50 points”.

A bit sour grapes and out to lunch, but fair enough. You’ve won your four rings and are one of the top centers to ever play the game of basketball, Shaq, but I fail to identify the need for you discredit the great Chicago Bulls of the 1990s (who won six rings in their dominant stretch).

Then as Scottie Pippen responded with a picture of his six rings, Shaq went on the “second fiddle, he’s a bum” rant.

He’s so mad it’s not even funny.

The Bulls team was Michael Jordan but Pippen played a huge role. He could defend. He was an awesome Robin. For Shaq to call him a bum is a bit ludicrous. Yeah I don’t think Pippen would win any rings without Jordan but he’s no bum. And no, the all time Lakers team would not win by 50 points over Michael Jordan.

Shaq should stay off Instagram if he’s going to act that way. And I like Shaq.

  • Phil Jackson

It pains me to put such a great player like Shaq on this list and then the best coach possibly ever in the National Basketball Association, the zen master himself.

I couldn’t help it after hearing him constantly in the months of June and July this year slander everyone and everything.

Let’s take a look at the list of opinions he has had over the last month:

-Duke basketball doesn’t really yield many great basketball players

Fair enough, and when looking at the last fifteen or so years that may be somewhat true. But no need to be a dick about it especially to such a great college basketball school/program. He is just punching coach Mike in the balls for throwing an opinion like that out there to the media.

-Talking about the issues Iman Schumpert and JR Smith had while in the big apple

I dislike these two basketball players and thought it was great Phil Jackson let them go, but no need to divulge into the details on why they left. Who the hell would want to play for Phil’s team if he’s willing to slander guys like that after they have left?

-His non-stop talk of how Kobe Bryant has issues with him

This is old, old news. He went on again recently how Kobe constantly looked in anger and disgust at him. Yawn. Get over it. Watch him write another book about it.

-Being behind the Knicks drafting Kristaps Porzingis

Okay, this was in June but I had to bring it up. This guy has bust written all over him and it shows how the Knicks couldn’t even tank the season properly by getting the fourth overall pick instead of the first overall pick.

I’d put my money on Towns and Wiggins being a good duo, and Porzingis busting in the big apple.

  • Tom Brady and the New England Patriots

Watching and reading about these two entities as well as their fans has become comical.

No one gets suspended for no reason. Especially a great quarterback with so as much leeway as Tom Brady.

Time and time again this organization is involved in one scandal after the next. And when they get caught, it becomes a big spin from their fans about how this and that didn’t happen or why this and that happened.

His legacy is tarnished now. When Brady gets into the hall of fame there will always be the argument on how he can’t be the best of all time simply because he was involved in so many scandals.

I don’t care if the balls were deflated at 0.5 psi or whatever excuse his fans use. He got caught, he destroyed his phone, and he was evasive.

The whole thing is stupid. There is no better tradition in sports than watching the New England Patriots lose in big games like they did from 2004-2014 before they cheated this year. Except maybe watching Lebron James lose.

The whole organization is arrogant and their fans are a joke.

  • Junior Gallette (formerly of the New Orleans Saints)

The guy gets caught on film beating a woman with a belt on a beach. He gets rightfully released by the New Orleans Saints.

What does he do?

Pretty much he slanders the whole organization through his girlfriends Twitter account using hashtags like the genius he is and then denies it.

In the rant he accused offensive lineman Zach Grief of being embarrassed over his wife cheating on him, Sean Payton being a drug addict, and how he thought young safety Vaccaro was gay with Kenny Stills (now of the Miami Dolphins).

Don’t believe me, look it up for yourself. This guy should be at the top of the losers list. After Brady and the New England Deflat…Patriots.

  • DeAndre Jordan

Yeah this is a no brainer.

Was the debacle in June or July? He deserves a shout out for the next year or so.

What grown man commits to one team and then backs out when the going gets tough. He hid behind his momma too.

The whole thing was too surreal to believe. And it’s hard to be a fan of this guy after the whole thing happened unless you’re a die hard Clippers fan who can’t tell the difference between black and white.

Biggest Winners

Enough talking about the misfits in sports this last month. Let’s give props to the positive people.

  • Dez Bryant (as well as Mr. Jerry Jones)

A nice, big, shiny contract for who I feel is a top five receiver in the National Football League. And before training camp too.

Can’t hate on that. As long as the offensive line holds up, him and Romo will be lighting the league up.

  • Russell Wilson

21 million dollars a year for the next four years is the new contract Russell Wilson has received.

A bit over the top, I feel he’s worth more around 15-20 million. But hey, he’s been playing on a discount rookie contract for years. He has earned it. Let’s see if he can hold it up.

Based on getting paid like Dez Bryant, he has won this month. Also getting it done before training camp too to avoid the potential drama.

  • Tim Tebow

He has earned a second chance to play in the NFL on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fellow team mates feel he has a shot to make the squad.

I can’t knock the man and give him credit for his ability to keep going despite things looking all but finished for him.

  • Lamarcus Aldridge and the San Antonio Spurs

Can you say favourites to win the NBA championship next year?

Duncan, Aldridge, Parker, Ginobili, Leonard, Patty Mills. My goodness.

They are going out with a bang.

The Curious Case of Adam Goodes

Ramblings, Sports

Let me start off by saying this: I don’t watch or follow rugby religiously. In fact, I had to correct the title as I called Mr. Goodes “Andrew” instead of Adam.

This was also too big of a topic in sports today for me to ignore it.

Basically, what has happened in a nutsell:

  • Adam Goodes is of “aboriginal” descent. When he scored via kick in a game for his team the Sydney Swans against I don’t know? Some random team they were apparently shit kicking? Well, anyways, he proceeded to do a tribal dance. The video is below.

Yes, it happened two months ago. The controversy today is that he gets booed often in every stadium across Australia now when playing in the “AFL” (Australian football league, also known as rugby in North America).

Through my research and just reading reactions on this issue, it seems Australians are firm to the opinion that they are booing him because he’s a jackass. Not because of this specific dance.

The media on the other hand of the spectrum is making it out into an issue on how Australia is racist against the “indigenous” people.

I really don’t know about this. If he was such a “jackass”, why has he won so many awards in rugby? He looks like he is valued around the AFL league and rugby quite a lot for a man that is a “jackass”. When I think of jackass I think of Terrell Owens of the NFL.

A thirteen year old fan called him an ape two years ago as well.

My two cents. I won’t divulge into it much further out of fear of offending any Australians.

Who’s Over Rated and Under Rated in the NHL (2015-2016)

Ramblings, Sports

I had to make this post.

Reading online postings, news articles, and the “pundits” opinions, I had to compile a list of who is over rated and under rated in the NHL and explain why. So you may ask, who qualifies? Well, players, teams, general managers, and coaches all do. Prepare to be enraged or smile.

Under Rated

I’ll start off with the positives. Who I believe is under rated in the National Hockey League.

The Vancouver Canucks

Reading online forums and opinions from fans, you would think the Vancouver Canucks will be a lottery team next year. The opposite is true, actually.

The year before fans said they would be a lottery team. What has changed? They have gotten rid of the misfits in their organization. Kevin Bieksa (I love him) with all due respect was terrible last year, Zack Kassian sucked, Eddie Lack was not a starter, and Nick Bonino was too inconsistent. Who is coming in for those guys?

Good guy Brandon Prust, good guy Brandon Sutter, top AHL goalie and prospect Jakob Markstrom, and lots of fast young guys.

No, this team will not suck. They will be decent and finish once again in the playoffs. The only logical reason you could say they miss is solely due to the fact you may believe a lot of their division rivals got better. Yes, the Oilers have gotten better and if they keep making the right moves, they will be a playoff team eventually. The Kings and Sharks are the true question mark.

The Minnesota Wild

A good core? Check. A well run organization? Check.

Fans think this team may also miss the playoffs after the Canucks. The furthest thing from the truth. They are a lock.

And they have a nice young core on the backend that includes names such as Matt Dumba and Jonas Brodin.

The only question is if Devan Dubnyk holds up. I feel behind that defense he has a chance to.

Coach Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning

I heard comments from people saying Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning of the coach sucks.

What?

I would gladly let him coach my Canucks if Willie Desjardins was let go tomorrow. He is a damn good coach.

You take him off the Lightning and tell me how many coaches would get that team into the finals like they did last year. Seriously impressive, and he’s won everywhere he’s gone.

There is no way he sucks as a coach. I’d put him in my top five list of coaches.

Big Jake Virtanen

I have heard from many he is a bust or would be lucky to get in the top twenty this year in the NHL draft.

Wrong. He is the most NHL ready prospect I have seen from the 2014 draft that has yet to play a game.

He ragdolled guys in the AHL. Just because his point totals don’t make you raise your eyes doesn’t mean he is a bust.

He will play in this league and he will be good. Just watch. He will be like Cam Neely. He will be a goal scorer who can hit. He won’t be an elite playmaker but he can play.

Over Rated

Now here comes the boos. Prepare to be annoyed if you are a fan of any of these teams, players, or personnel.

The Buffalo Sabres (Tim Murray, their prospect pool, and shitty moves)

An easy choice quite frankly. And the top choice.

You would think reading forums that the Sabres were going to contend for the stanley cup or win multiple cups within five years.

Wrong.

The move for Ryan O’ Reilly was fucking stupid. Eight million for a guy who gets sixty points and does what else? At the expense of one of their youngest defensemen as well as top prospect Grigorenko?

The owner himself Mr. Terry Pegula said the last two seasons have been the most successful in Sabres history. What!?

And their starting goalie who they gave up a first round pick for Robin Lehner. Wow.

Watching Tim Murray whine about missing the first overall pick was great TV. Jack Eichel must be happy as hell to play for the next Edmonton Oilers organization.

This team is going to be a trainwreck, just watch.

Ted Nolan will be laughing his ass off when they do. He sure should have been fired (in a sarcastic tone I say that).

Tanking is never rewarded in the league, Tim. We should rename him and Terry Pegula to tweedle dee and tweedle dum.

The poor fans think they have a chance at the playoffs next year. Laugh my ass off.

The Winnipeg Jets (And their stupid prospect pool)

You would think reading comments from fans of the NHL that the Jets, just like the Sabres, will be champions in five years due to “the depth of their prospect pool”.

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

One glance at their prospect pool will show you how that is a bold lie. There is not one player from their “prospect pool” I could say that “I want that guy on my team”.

Little Nik Ehlers who the Canucks passed on for a reason will be walloped when he reaches the big leagues. After that they have a slew of AHL players and fourth line players.

Congrats guys, you are well on your way to a few eighth seeds and first round exits for the next five years.

I love the fans of this team and I’m also a fan of the team, but seriously, a prospect pool full of depth doesn’t make a team a contender for the next ten years.

The Calgary Flames Offseason Moves (and somwhat…their potential)

I didn’t want to throw gasoline on the Flames and say their whole organization is over rated. I just find the moves they made this offseason…over rated.

Dougie Hamilton, Frolik from the Jets. Okay. Frolik will be an elite third liner. But claiming Dougie Hamilton is the answer to pushing them over the top could not be further from the truth.

Bruins fans hated this guy. He was a turnover machine last year. He is what this topic is about. He’s not a future Norris winner. He is average. A second pairing defenseman at best.

I also think Gaudreau and Monahan will not repeat the success they had last year. But that’s just me. Sam Bennett is coming in, though?

I can’t act bitter about this team since they owned my Canucks in the playoffs this last season. But there is something about them I can’t put my finger on. I really do see them as another Colorado. A lot of young talent that peaked one year and regressed the next. No way do they get as many come from behind wins as they did this last year.
